A Few Words About College
Readers who have read my blog for quite some time, or those who know me personally, know that I work at a large university. I absolutely love working at my alma mater. Over the almost (FOUR!!!) years that I’ve been working here, I have enjoyed seeing the changes that have taken place on campus—from renovations to the cafeteria area, and additions made to the library, to new activities and organizations on campus. It’s always nostalgic for me to walk on campus and see things in a different light now. It’s all so familiar to me, and probably always will be, despite construction changes.
But each fall, the same thing happens. As all the young college kids, much less freshmen, arrive on campus wide-eyed and excited, I can’t help but reminisce about the way I felt at that young age. I see the potential for opportunity and growth in these students, and I can’t help but feel a teeny bit sad that college is over. Yes, it’s been years since I graduated, and crazy enough, I’m almost 10 years older than these freshmen! Scary, eh? I just love the air here on campus—the culture, the liveliness, the way it feels like a mini-metropolis with all its bells and whistles. I know that I have so many other opportunities and milestones to look forward to myself, and I’m thankful for that, but I wanted to note how I feel each fall seeing the new students. It’s funny how I think over all that I experience in college, and everything I’ve experienced post-college and I see how much things have changed. My God, life is short.
So as I sit here and let my mind wander, I’m gonna say *CHEERS!* to new opportunities, milestones, and accomplishments. Here’s to growing up!
